Anchoring and How To Level Your Dishwasher

Three connections are needed for a dishwasher.  An electrical cable supplies 120 volts of power; a drain line runs to the trap or garbage disposer; and a supply line, hooked to a stop valve under the sink, brings water to the dishwasher.  In this tip, says the Santa Cruz plumbing experts, we will discuss anchoring and how to level your dishwasher.

Installing the dishwasher

Slide the dishwasher in far enough so that only its decorative trim is visible, says the plumbing of Santa Cruz experts.  If the dishwasher won’t go in far enough, pull it out and look for obstructions.

Stand back and check that the dishwasher looks straight in relation to the cabinets and the countertop.  To raise or lower one or both sides, use groove-joint pliers to turn the feet a the bottom of the unit.  Wiggle the dishwasher to test that it rests solidly on all four feet.

Once satisfied with the dishwasher’s position, open the door and find the mounting tabs (usually on the top edge, sometimes on the sides).  Drill pilot holes.  To avoid drilling up through the countertop, wrap a piece of tape on the drill bit to mark the depth at which to stop.  Drive short screws into the holes to anchor the dishwasher to the countertop.
